"That's funny...he's serious!"
It's not all fun-and-games in the voice booth. I recently completed a project for Lutheran Home Care Agency in Minnesota. In a TV voiceover and a Radio Spot, I voiced a guy faced with setting up Hospice care for his wife. You can click the image to the left to hear the result. Pushing my voice into another age bracket is no big deal. But a chance to do some real voice acting doesn't come along everyday.

scooby title

I've always loved cartoons. Meeting the great Mel Blanc was a career high. But I never figured I'd be saying "Boo!" to Scooby-Doo. I happened to be near a phone when the media magicians over at SouthPeak Interactive needed the adrenaline pumped up on voiceover of the announcer part for a new computer game spot.

fun park phantom I even got to double
as the "Fun Park Phantom".

cops and phantoms

The commercial aired on Cartoon Network, but you can listen to the spot right here in MP3 .

It's a big thrill to finally be up there with the 'toon stars, even for just :30 seconds.
(And they didn't try to pay me off in Scooby Snacks, either!)

Muy Loco I'm A Talking Toy!!
Trendmasters Logo
Still more proof that no job is too unusual for Rowell Gormon!

Okay, I admit it...I’ve always wanted to be the voice of a talking toy.
I just never envisioned a talking robot lizard named Muy Loco
who eats flies and does a mean rhumba (*batteries not included).

Muy Loco is currently doing his thing in stores and tv spots all over the country...
destined to be one of the toys that’ll be driving parents nuts between now and the
holidays from Trendmasters.

You can hear Muy Loco talk a little by clicking on either image.

Muy Loco actually began as a set of audition tracks for a Trendmasters project with
the working title "Latin Lover Chick-a-Saurus". I never did see what the little guy
was supposed to look like, but I made the cut and eventually did a couple of ISDN sessions
via Procomm. Later, they had me do yet another set of lines for a Toy Fair. Time passed. I'd
forgotten about the whole thing, figuring Trendmasters had too. Then I heard a familiar phrase
in a commercial on Cartoon Network. Sure enough, there was the "Chick-a-Saurus"...reborn!

I think he's actually the cutest of the three robots in the current series. Although I'm sure
he's going to get on Mom's nerves after the first 500 plays. But then, isn't that what kids
talking toys are suppossed to do?

GLUB! GLUB! GLUB!

north carolina aquariums logoA huge new aquarium has opened on North Carolina’s Outer Banks. Nina Zlosberg of NAPRO Communications brought me in to create the Radio spot as part of the state’s overall promotional effort.

Several ideas were suggested. Above all, the clients specified they did not want a “bunch of cute talking fishies”.

Scripts were written, studied, and ultimately discarded for one reason or another. Then like a cliche in a bad movie, I woke up one morning with the scenario practically written in my head. Naturally, since paper is easier to fax, I got the idea in print before it faded out of my noggin forever. Oddly enough, it swam perilously close to the client’s forbidden zone. Fortunately, Nina went to bat for the idea and helped the clients see how it would work.

To hear the spot presented to and approved by the folks at the Aquarium, or click here for the MP3. I even got to indulge in a little creative nepotism by casting my daughter Marilyn as the younger voice in the dialogue.

The spot was produced at my Imaginator studio with music by Scott Pearson, and sent to several North Carolina markets.
